Our Mission

At Joint Debate Society, we seek to empower young people with the art of public speaking, critical thinking, and the ability to do research in order to make informed decisions. We also need to use debating and public speaking as the platforms to contribute to peaceful coexistence, social networking, and peer to peer learning. we aim at raising leaders who are capable of solving their societal problems and contribute to the sustainable world by accepting and challenging different ideas without resorting to conflict.

Our Vision

We envisage a South Sudan, Africa, and a world where young people have better communication skills, sharp thoughts, and the ability to make informed decisions regarding their own societal problems — where different ideologies don't bring conflicts but rather an opportunity to accept them and use them meaningfully.

Our Objectives

  1. To nurture young people and students with debating and communication skills so that they can become better leaders.
  2. To use debating and public speaking as a platform for young people to contribute towards a sustainable future by allowing them to solve problems critical to their societies; conflict resolution and promotion of peace through debating, and SDGs.
  3. To instil the spirit of doing research and build the spirit of teamwork and collaboration among the debaters such that they can grow, ready to work together in solving any societal problem that arises.
  4. To create a platform that allows students and young people to carry out public awareness pertaining to some of global challenges, eg, climate change, GBV, governance, etc.
  5. Promotion of understanding by accepting the existing diversity in different arguments and ideas expressed in the debate.
  6. To build positive discourse in interaction.
Joint Debate Society

Joint Debate Society

Joint Debate Society-JDS is a nonprofit organization motivated to enhance the art of public speaking, build confidence among young people, and contribute to the national building through allowing young people in schools to engage themselves in a positive discourse while improving their ability to think critically and use their diverse ideas to shape the globe in to a better place .

We work in such a way that looks at debating as not a platform for fun but as an opportunity to build national cohesion and build social interactions among different young people who come from different backgrounds — in so doing, we aim to promote peace and togetherness and solving other pressing issues around their communities.
